Getting Ready for AY 2027-28 Filing
The exact forms and figures for Assessment Year 2027-28 get finalised closer to the filing window — but the groundwork that makes filing quick is the same every year, and it's worth doing early.

Why Prepare Early
Most of the stress around a tax deadline comes from documents that should have been sorted months earlier, not from the return itself. The return is usually the fast part once everything underneath it is reconciled. Getting the groundwork done now — while there's no deadline pressure — means AY 2027-28 filing itself is a same-week job, not a scramble.
What To Have Ready
- Form 16 / Form 16A from every employer or deductor for the year, once issued.
- Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement (AIS) — reconciled against your own records, since these are what the department checks your return against.
- Bank interest certificates and any capital-gains statements from brokers or mutual fund houses.
- Advance-tax challans paid through the year, so instalments already paid are correctly credited.
- Rent receipts, loan interest certificates, and investment proofs for any deductions you plan to claim.
A Few Things Worth Checking Before Filing Season
Advance tax instalments are usually due through the year rather than at filing time — if you've had a change in income (a bonus, a large capital gain, freelance income), it's worth checking your instalment schedule rather than waiting to true it up at year-end. Reconciling Form 26AS/AIS against your own income records periodically also catches mismatches — TDS deducted by a payer but not yet reflected, or income the department's data shows that you'd genuinely account for — while there's still time to sort them out, rather than after a mismatch notice arrives.
Specific slab rates, form changes, and deadline dates for AY 2027-28 will be confirmed by the tax department closer to the filing window — we'll flag anything materially different once it's finalised, rather than guess ahead of it.
